Artist's Note

While majoring in crafts, including ceramics and textiles, during university, the artist developed a strong interest in slip casting, one of the ceramic forming techniques, and has continued to pursue ceramic work ever since. Using clay, a traditional material, the artist explores personal expressions through contemporary and unique sculptural forms, tableware, and object-based works.

By combining the inherent materiality and textures of clay with the artist’s own forming techniques and various materials, the artist seeks to create distinctive sculptural aesthetics. All of the artist’s works express the fundamental elements of pure form — Point, Line, and Surface — through ceramic structures, utilizing geometric characteristics composed of simplicity, repetition, contrast, and other complex visual elements.

The artist pursues a harmonious visual aesthetic created through the contrast between modern, structurally ordered geometric forms and organic, natural sensations expressed through color and texture. Throughout the process of ceramic creation, the artist continuously reflects on the boundary between craft, which emphasizes functionality and technique, and art, which conveys personal expression and emotion.

The artist embraces the ambiguous balance between objects that possess value even without practical use and objects that gain meaning through functionality, enjoying this delicate equilibrium as a personal “seesaw play” within the creative process.
