Kim Jin Woo is a robot engineer and installation of kinetic public art, and embodies the evolving human figure as a robot. Animation and toys, which have been of interests to Kim since childhood, naturally became the subject of painting works by majoring in Fine Arts. The ridiculous yet violent slapstick expressions used in animations such as Disney, Betty Boop, Tom and Jerry in the past were attractive but unpleasant at the same time, made him focus on those sensations, using slapstick expression techniques used in animations to metaphorize social phenomena seen in the 21st century. Kim shows images by utilizing the characteristics of old animations seen on the screen, and divides the motion in slapstick direction into several layers or expresses one scene in contradictory situations. Visual direction shown in planar work expands to various media, leading to installations using animation and objects. Recently, coloring work using traditional oriental painting materials is being carried out, using immature stag with horns on branches, and CMYK colors are thinly used repeatedly expressing the paradox of splendor, death, and freedom in black and white, which are combined at the same time. Artist's Note
Anyone would have thought about the origin of humans, animals, and plants at least once. One of my various curiosities was the question of how humans were made, how they evolved, and how civilization was made. In my late 20s, I traveled to the birthplaces of human civilization and met various races, and was curious about their culture and history. Such an experience seems to have become a valuable resource to permeate the current work and create my world of work.
